Story Behind A Song.
When
we hear a song , its really very hard to believe so many people are behind the
making of it . So lets see who are the key players involved in making the audio
part of the song - First and foremost is the Music Director , who is the actual
boss . Then come the Lyricist, the Music Arrangers, the Music Conductors, the
Musicians, the Chorus, the Singers, and the Recordist. Sometimes an Asst. Music
Director may assist a Music Director, in the same way and Asst. Recordist may
assist a Recordist.
If
you just have a look, so many people are involved, and to make it very clear
each and every person involved has his work specified. Let’s see how everybody
works in a systematic way.
The
song has words written by a LYRICIST. These words are then given a tune,
composed by a MUSIC DIRECTOR. As soon as the tune is composed, a MUSIC ARRANGER
comes to the scene. His work is to decorate the composed tune, with inputs from
the Music Director. These decorations in songs may be like; the starting music
[Prelude] that comes before the song gets started. Then, there are interludes,
which come between the antaras [stanza] in a song. A Music Arranger is also
required to make the rhythm formation, counter pieces, and back- ground in the
song. Some Music Directors never use Music Arrangers , they feel they can do
more justice to a tune created by them . On the other hand , there are few Music
Directors , who cannot work without Music Arrangers . Once all the paper work is
over, the practical starts; the Music Arranger hands over all the music,
written in staff notations, to the Music Conductor. The Music Conductor studies
the staff notations and calls the required Musicians. The Music Conductor then
conducts the Musicians. In other words, Music director creates a tune, a Music
Arranger decorates it, and then a Music Arranger makes the Musician play the
Music. Role of Musicians are very important in a song, without them, a song can
never see the light of the day. A tune created by a Music Director comes to life
through the hands of Musicians. It is a pity these Musicians are never
acknowledged for their work, and it’s only the Music Director who gets the credit. As
the music is ready the Chorus singers come and do their part. Some Music Directors have constantly used Chorus as intruments, which gives a
beautiful effect in totality. In fact chorus plays a very important role in a
song, harmony is created by chorus, chorus also gives a effect of depth in a song. Chorus
may be of male singer, female singers or mixed, and the number of
singers depends upon the song, normally at least twelve singers are used.
Now
as the music of the song is ready, Singers arrive, the Music Director introduces
them to the song. Singers have a very important role to play in a song , its
only through them the words come out and are heard by the the listeners . So pronunciations
are very important , also the emotions and feelings involved in
the song have to come out clearly. Lastly the Recordists come on the scene ,
today in the world of high technologies , music is not left behind . What we
hear in a cassette or a C.D is the final product , defined and shaped by the Recordist . A
recordist can enhance a Music by his talents , there are so many instruments involved in a recording and all the
instruments should be audible , and should
not suppress one another , this is done by a recordist .
