Comparing Indian And Western Music
If
we look at Indian Music we have Swaras [swars] namely-
●
If
we take a look at the above swaras or notes , they are same only the name
differs.
For
example-we can call a note Sa and the
same note can also be called C.
At
this point we can easily put forward the basic difference between the Indian and
western music. If you see the swaras or the notes written above ,the last sa or
c has a marking. this marking defines the change of saptak or octave. So in
Indian music, tar saptak is marked with a dot above the note, whereas in western
music the same tar saptak changes its name to higher octave and it is marked
with a line below.
Sa-
Madhya saptak =
c
-
medium octave
●
Sa-
tar saptak
= c
-
higher octave
--
--
Now
let know what this saptak or octave is . a group of full seven notes starting
from Sa[or c] to Ni [or b] is called an octave,.
So
if you look at the notes below-
●
Sa
Re
Ga
Ma
